Preparation Before Registering in OSS
Before opening the OSS portal, gather all necessary information and documents. Most important is your NIK (National Identity Number) from your national ID for individual registrations, or the deed of establishment and ministerial ratification decree for corporate entities. Make sure your national ID data is integrated with the Dukcapil (civil registry) system, because OSS registration uses NIK verification.
Also decide on the KBLI code you will use. KBLI is a standardized code that classifies business types. Choosing the correct code matters because it determines which additional licenses may be required. If your business operates in technology or application development, there are specific KBLI codes for that.
Registration Steps on the OSS Portal
Access the OSS portal through the official website oss.go.id. Create a new account using your NIK for a sole proprietorship, or a deed-based account for a corporate entity. After logging in, select the menu for a new licensing application and follow the registration flow provided.
Enter business data accurately: business name, line of business per KBLI code, business location address, capital amount, and the responsible party's data. The OSS system will provide guidance at each step. Save your temporary registration number before the process is complete.
- Access oss.go.id and create or log in to your OSS account
- Select the new licensing menu and the appropriate business type
- Enter the responsible party's data matching your national ID
- Select the correct KBLI code for your business activity
- Enter the complete and accurate business location address
- Download the NIB after the process is complete and save a copy
Selecting the Correct KBLI Code
Selecting the KBLI code is one of the steps that most often causes confusion. KBLI covers thousands of codes representing every type of business activity. For businesses in application development and information technology, some relevant codes relate to computer programming, IT consulting, and software development activities.
You may register more than one KBLI code if your business spans several lines of activity. However, ensure that every code selected genuinely reflects an activity your business actually carries out — do not simply select every code that seems relevant.
After the NIB Is Issued
Once the NIB is issued, download the NIB document in PDF format from the OSS portal and save the digital copy securely. A NIB issued electronically carries a digital signature that is legally valid and does not require a physical stamp.
If the NIB is to be used for external purposes such as DUNS registration or Play Console verification, ensure the format used is clearly legible and the information it contains is accurate. Some platforms may require uploading a high-resolution scan of the NIB.
Updating the NIB When Changes Occur
If the business undergoes changes such as an address update, addition of a new line of business, or a change in the responsible party, the NIB must be updated through the OSS system. The update process is similar to the initial registration and can generally be completed within one business day.
Do not delay NIB updates, as a NIB with outdated information can create data inconsistencies when used for external verification, including Google Play Console verification or DUNS registration.
