Name Mismatch Between Document and Account

This is the most common cause of rejection. The name on your identity document must exactly match the name registered in your Google Ads account and billing profile. Spelling differences, the use of a nickname, or the use of initials alone can result in a rejected submission.

The solution is to check the name in your Google Ads account before submitting verification and confirm it matches your official document. If necessary, update the name in the account first following the applicable procedure, then submit your verification.

  • Compare the name on your ID or document against the name in your Google Ads account.
  • Also check the name in your Google Ads billing profile.
  • Confirm there are no abbreviations that differ between the two.
  • For companies, compare the registered legal name against the name in the account.
  • Resolve any mismatch in the account before resubmitting.

Document Quality That Does Not Meet Requirements

Documents that are blurry, dark, or partially cropped will be rejected outright. Google's reviewers need to read all information on the document clearly. Even a genuine original document scanned at poor quality will not be accepted.

Solution: use a quality scanner or a smartphone scanning application that optimizes image quality. After preparing the file, open and enlarge it to verify legibility before uploading. Repeat the scan if any section is unreadable.

Expired Document

An expired national ID, driver's license, or passport cannot be used for verification. Google only accepts identity documents that are still valid at the time of submission. Check the expiry date of every document you plan to use.

If your document has expired or is about to expire, renew it before submitting verification. Document renewal does take time, but submitting an expired document will only result in repeated rejections.

Business Information That Cannot Be Publicly Verified

For business operations verification, Google may attempt to verify the information you provide against public sources such as your website, business directories, or company registration databases. If your business is difficult to find or its information is inconsistent across different sources, the submission may be rejected.

Make sure your website is active with valid contact information, your business name is consistent across all online platforms, and your Google Business Profile (if you have one) is up to date. Consistent information across multiple online touchpoints makes the verification process smoother.

Business Categories Subject to Specialized Verification Requirements

Certain industries carry additional verification requirements due to their sensitive nature or strict regulatory environment. Industries such as financial services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and legal services may require licenses or certifications beyond standard identity documents.

If your business operates in a tightly regulated industry, research the specific requirements that apply before submitting verification. Submitting without the right documents will only result in rejection and extend the time needed to complete the process.
